Businesses Deal With Internet Outage After Lumos Networks Cable Damaged
Lynchburg, VA- Some Lynchburg businesses had a rough day Friday dealing with internet issues. According to a worker with Lumos Networks, a telecommunications line went down Friday morning, and they worked until around 4 p.m. to get it back up.
We first got a tip about the internet outage around 11:30 a.m. from a Beacon Credit Union customer. The customer said they weren't able to access their online banking. After speaking to a manager with the credit union, we learned the online part of their banking was down because a Lumos internet cable was being repaired.
We spotted the repairs going on near the intersection of Wards Ferry Road and Timberlake Road. S&N Communications was contracted by Lumos to repair the line. We were told by a Lumos worker that the damaged cable looked like it had been chewed by an animal, but they couldn't determine exactly what happened.
The main businesses affected by the outage were Beacon Credit Union and Virginia Eagle Distributing. A couple area schools were also affected, but class is not back in session for them yet.
