Charlottesville - Bucknell scored all five of its runs in the first two innings and made a 3-run lead stand over the final seven innings in a 5-2 win over Liberty Saturday afternoon. The loss for the Flames, their second in two days in the NCAA Charlottesville Regional, ends Liberty's season at 41-18. Bucknell right-hander Dan Weigel handcuffed the Flames in pitching a complete game to run his record to 8-5 on the year. The Bison senior limited Liberty to two runs, both in the first inning, on four hits over nine innings, striking out six. He did not walk a batter.Liberty jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Ryan Seiz's sac fly plated Ashton Perritt with the first run, Perritt led off the inning with a single. First baseman Alex Close ripped his ninth homer of the season to make it 2-0. But Bucknell answered with three runs in the bottom of the first to grab the lead, an advantage they would not lose the rest of the way. The Bison added two runs in the second to make it 5-2 and there would be no other scoring the rest of the game.Liberty's Matt Marsh pitched four scoreless innings and struck out seven, but the Flames could not overcome the Bison's three-run advantage.Liberty finishes the year with the second-most wins in a season (41) and became the first Liberty team to earn an at-large bid in baseball program history. The Flames won the Big South regular season title with a school record conference mark of 23-3. Bucknell moves to 31-21 on the year and will play the loser of Saturday night's game between Arkansas and Virginia Sunday afternoon.
