Brookneal Edges Appomattox in Angels Softball 3-2

Madison Heights - Brookneal held off Appomattox 3-2 Tuesday night in the Angels Softball State Tournament in Madison Heights, staying alive and forcing a second title game Wednesday night.

Scoreless game until the third when Brookneal took advantage of three throwing errors by Appomattox to score three runs and grab the lead.

Brookneal could have gotten more as Kasey Crews sent a deep shot to left. But Emma Drinkard robbed her with a great catch to end the inning. Appomattox got two runs back in the fourth, Skyler Sams doubled and scored on Hannah Marcum's single up the middle as Appomattox pulled within 3-2. Appomattox pitcher Kaleigh Hackett got out of a jam in the bottom of the fourth to keep her team down just one.
But Brookneal won 3-2, game time Wednesday night is 7 o'clock at Shrader Field in Madison Heights.
