Lynchburg Police Chief: An Officer Was Shot While Pursuing a Suspect

ABC 13 is on the scene at McCausland Ridge Apartments in Lynchburg.

Update: 1:30 a.m.

Lynchburg, VA - The Chief of the Lynchburg Police Department has released a statement saying at 10:40 Wednesday evening, officers were executing a search warrant at the McCausland Ridge Apartment complex, for a drug related offense.

One of the suspects attempted to flee the scene on foot.

While in pursuit of the suspect, one officer received a single, non life threatening gun shot wound.

The Chief has declined further comment at this time.

An employee at Lynchburg General Hospital has confirmed for ABC 13 that the officer wounded is in stable condition.


Update: 12:20 a.m.

Lynchburg, VA - Two sources tell ABC 13 that the officer has suffered what appear to be non-life-threatening injuries.

We can not confirm the officers name at this time.


Lynchburg, VA - Dispatch has confirmed for ABC 13 that a police officer had been shot in Lynchburg Wednesday evening around 10:30.

Emergency crews are on the scene at McCausland Ridge Apartments in Lynchburg.

This apartment complex is off Langhorne Road in midtown.

ABC 13 has crews on the scene at both McCausland Ridge Apartments and Lynchburg General Hospital.

At this time, we are awaiting details from the Lynchburg Police Department.
