Halifax Co., VA - A missing Burlington, North Carolina woman was found dead this weekend in Halifax County.
Hunters found the body of 90-year-old Ruzie Suggs near her car on a farm road off Buckshoal Road in Virgilina.Authorities say she suffered from dementia and believe she became disoriented after dropping off a friend in Greensboro on September 8.
"It's not 100%, but we kind of believe with her age being a factor, it's a possibility she got lost from the time she was in Greensboro," said Halifax County Investigator Michael Womack.
Cell phone records show she made it to Halifax County but her whereabouts remained unknown until Saturday when her body was found.
Suggs had been traveling with her 9-year-old poodle, Pierre, who was still alive and by her side when police arrived on the scene.
A relative said Suggs was a kind-hearted woman who never met a stranger.
The Halifax County Sheriff's Office is working with Burlington police on the investigation.
Her body was sent to Richmond for an autopsy and a cause of death has not been determined.
No funeral arrangements have been made at this time.
