Blacksburg Man Behind Bars, Charged with Malicious Wounding

Blacksburg, VA - A Blacksburg man is being held in the Montgomery County jail after police say he stabbed a person early Sunday Morning.

Kente Gilkes, 31, from Blacksburg, has been charged with Malicious Wounding and Obstruction of Justice.

GiIkes is being held without bond at the Montgomery County Jail.

Blacksburg Police responded to the intersection of Draper Road and College Avenue in reference to a fight and possible stabbing at 2:35 a.m. Sunday.

Blacksburg Police, with assistance from Virginia Tech Police, arrived on scene and found a person suffering from multiple lacerations.

A number of witness statements given to police provided a description.

Virginia Tech Police Department Officers located the suspect on College Avenue, who immediately fled on foot. After the chase, the VTPD officers were able to detain the suspect without incident in the 200 block of Harding Avenue.

The victim was transported by Blacksburg Rescue initially to Lewis-Gale Montgomery Regional Hospital for treatment of cuts to the face and wrist. The victim has been transferred to Lewis-Gale Medical Center in Salem for further treatment.

The injuries do not appear to be life threatening. The victim's name is not being released at this time.

The incident remains under investigation.
