Blacksburg Couple Killed in SC Motorcycle Accident, Leave 4-Year-Old Daughter Behind
Blacksburg, VA - A Blacksburg couple was killed in a motorcycle accident in Myrtle Beach over the weekend, and now family and friends are trying to raise money to help the 4-year-old daughter they left behind.
Traffic Sgt. Jim Allen with the Myrtle Beach Police Department says the accident happened on the Highway 17 Bypass at 2 p.m. Friday.
Allen says Thomas Weeks III and his wife Stephanie Weeks were riding a 2006 Boss Hoss motorcycle going northbound when the accident happened. He says Thomas Weeks lost control of the motorcycle, crossed the grass median, and T-boned a Chevrolet TrailBlazer that was traveling southbound.
Thomas Weeks, 43, died at the scene, and Stephanie Weeks, 36, died in the hospital Saturday afternoon.
Police say they were not wearing helmets, but it's important to note that under South Carolina law, wearing a helmet while riding a motorcycle IS NOT required for riders 21 and older.
The two people in the SUV were treated for minor injuries and were later released.
A close family friend says the couple leaves behind a 4-year-old daughter, Amarynn. She says the Weeks lived in the McCoy area in Blacksburg, and they were in Myrtle Beach for Bike Week.
She also said the Weeks were in a very bad motorcycle accident a few years back that severely injured Thomas.
Friends have set up a memorial fund to help raise money for the couple's families and for their daughter. If you're interested in helping, you can donate here.
