Lynchburg, VA - The Red Cross Friday received a big boost for their blood donations.
Staff and volunteers collected blood during what they say is a very important time of year. Donations drive down during the winter, when inclement weather tends to keep people home.
But Red Cross staff said it is so important to give; one pint of blood can save at least two lives.
Many of the people that gave had their own reasons for donating. Amy Mapes, one donor in Lynchburg, gave for her son.
"He was on the heart-lung bypass for five days, and he was bleeding out. So if it weren't for the donors, he wouldn't have made it" she said.
There were around 100 donors in Lynchburg Friday. That's potentially 200 lives that may be saved.
