Big Crowd Participates in SCLC MLK March

Danville, VA - A big crowd gathered together Sunday night in downtown Danville to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The Danville-Pittsylvania County Chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference held their annual Stop the Killing March in honor of the civil rights activist.
Several groups, residents, and local officials joined in. It started at the Martin Luther King Jr. Bridge and continued through North Main Street.
The organizer said a big focus of the march was to promote peace and unity, and to remember locals who were victims of violence.
"We will probably make a stop in front of where a merchant was shot at a store. Also across on the other side, a young man was shot, who was named Rennie Hunt. We'll pray in front of those spots," said Rev. Avon Keen, president of the state and local chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference.
The march ended at Three Angels Message Seven Day Adventist Church where there was an MLK celebration service.
