Bedford, VA - A Bedford City officer is commended by his police chief for helping stop a driver going the wrong way.
A State Trooper tried to stop a car heading west in the eastbound lanes of 460 just before 5a.m. January 21. The trooper clocked that car at over 100 mph.
Officer John Maddox asked dispatch to have other officers stop traffic. Maddox threw out stop sticks, stopping that car near Shiloh Church Road.
"All of us were working together to meet the common goal of stopping this vehicle in a quick and safe manner," said Maddox. "I just happened to be the one who was in the right time."
The car's 16-year-old driver was convicted of DUI, driving without a license, and eluding police. He will be sentenced on Monday.
