Bedford Now a Town, but Bigger Than the Former City
Bedford, VA - Bedford officially reverted from a city to a town Monday, but got bigger in the process.
The new town is about 25% bigger than the city, with new town limits in place.
The town limits now stretch to just before Wheatland Road and past the VDOT office on Route 460. Bedford Police now have a bigger patrol area.
"We've distributed maps and we've been talking about this for months and months," said Bedford Police Chief Jim Day. "Within the last couple of weeks, they've been going ahead and starting to do some things in those areas."
Some of the city limit signs have been replaced with town limit signs. Wooden spikes mark the location of future signs.
