Bedford Co., VA - The administrative offices for the Bedford County Department of Fire and Rescue could move into vacant space the county already owns.
The Bedford Group Homes on Falling Creek Road closed in January. The county owes more than $2 million on those facilities.
The fire and rescue department had been saving money for a new facility, until this option presented itself.
"We're a department of county government that does have some money put aside," said Chief Jack Jones, Jr. "So this would get a facility for fire and rescue, education, and outreach. It would take a burden off of the taxpayers and local budget because we could pay for a portion of those facilities."
The Bedford County Board of Supervisors could include the move in the budget to be adopted next month.
