Bedford Couple Keeps Historic Feel With New Home After Fire

Bedford, VA - A Bedford couple is honoring the past as they rebuild their home after a fire.

Jamie and Kim Snell's house on Longwood Avenue burned last December. It was built more than 100 years ago.

The couple could have rebuilt whatever they wanted on the lot, but chose to construct a new home with architectural characteristics similar to homes built in the Victorian era.

"In the neighborhood here, most of the homes are from the late 1800s, early 1900s," said Jamie Snell. "We just wanted to keep with the period and try not to put anything too modern in."

A crane will be brought in on Friday to set the roof trusses.

The couple hopes to be in the house by October.
