Bedford Co.,VA- The Bedford County School Board voted to renew the Superintendent's contract, despite concerns from some parents.
Parents are angry that two appointed board members had a say in the vote Thursday night. They urged the school board to hold off on negotiating the Superintendent's contract until after the November election. But, last night the board went ahead with the vote.
The School Board Chairman says the current board members are best qualified to make this decision, not newly elected members. And he says recent achievements show Doctor Douglas Schuch is doing a good job.
"Staunton River was above on one or two on testing scores. It's those types of achievements that we're seeing as results. You can't become Superintendent and see results in the next year. It takes some time. He's building up the program. He has a strategic program that he is working towards," said Gary Hostutler, Chairman of the Bedford County School Board.
Doctor Schuch's new contract runs through June 2016.
