Bedford Co. Sheriff's Office Investigating Car Explosion

Bedford Co., VA - The Bedford County Sheriff's Office says people shooting at a car caused an explosion over the weekend.

Deputies were called out to the 1100 block of Gross Hollow Road in Montvale on Sunday afternoon.

Investigators say the property owner reported he and several other people were target practicing with a rifle.

The property owner says he put five pounds of tannerite compound, which is an explosive, in an inoperable car which was in a field.

When a bullet hit the car, it exploded.

No one was injured.

The sheriff's office says no charges have been filed, but the investigation continues.
