Bedford Co. Man Pleads Guilty to Murder and Arson
Bedford, VA - A Bedford County man pleaded guilty to murder, arson, and a gun charge for shooting a man to death and burning down his house in April 2012.
Charles Glover, 44, wept openly in court and apologized to the family of Reggie Bowles. Glover admitted to killing Bowles because he believed Bowles was sleeping with his wife.
The prosecution says Glover broke into the victim's house on Jeter's Chapel Road and set his bed on fire. They say Glover waited for Bowles to get home, ambushed him, and shot him nine times as Bowles tried to run down his driveway. When Bowles was nearly dead, Glover admits he cut off the victim's penis.
"Mr. Glover set out on a mission to kill. He wanted to execute Reggie Bowles," said Randy Krantz, Bedford County Commonwealth's Attorney. "It wasn't enough for Mr. Glover to kill Reggie. He wanted to make him suffer and he wanted to strike back for this perceived affair."
Glover's defense attorney says they wanted to avoid risking a life sentence had this case gone to trial. Glover was sentenced to 43 years in prison, minus time served. Glover will be 86-years-old on his release date.
