Bedford Co. Internet Task Force Arrests Navy Pilot

Virginia Beach, VA - A United States Naval Pilot stationed at Naval Air Station Oceana has been arrested on charges relating to an alleged online relationship with a 13-year-old Bedford County girl.

Daniel Chase Harris, 30, was arrested Tuesday in Virginia Beach by the Bedford County based Southern Virginia{}Internet Crimes{}Against Children Task Force.{} Harris is charged with multiple counts of using an electronic communications device to facilitate certain offenses against children and extortion.

Investigators from the ICAC task force,{}the Bedford County Sheriff's Office, the Virginia Beach Police Department, and Naval Criminal Investigative Services (NCIS) helped in the arrest.

The Bedford County Sheriff's Office began investigating Harris July, after they were notified by the girl's family.{} Investigators say that while online, Harris threatened the girl{}to coerce her to send him{}sexually explicit pictures of herself.

Investigators{}obtained warrants for Harris' home in Virginia Beach, where they say they collected evidence that led to the arrest.{} Bedford County Sheriff Mike Brown says there is evidence of more victims and more charges are pending, related to child pornography.{}

Harris is a Naval lieutenant, pilot, flight instructor, and Naval Academy graduate, according to Sheriff Brown. Brown says Harris confessed to the task force senior investigator.

Harris is being held without bond in Virginia Beach, awaiting transfer to the Bedford Adult Detention Center.
