Bedford Co. Hay Production Up, Thanks to Spring Rains

Lynchburg, Va. (AP) - Spring rains have created a plentiful hay crop in Bedford County, one of the top five localities in Virginia for hay production.

Working with the rain, the sunny weather in recent weeks has created the perfect conditions to bale hay, which must be dry to for farmers to cut.

Bedford's extension agent Scott Baker says most area producers agree that the hay yield is good or better than last year.

Across Virginia, hay is listed as 14% in excellent condition and 47% in good condition, according to a report from the Virginia field office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service.
