Police were called to the 2600 block of Oak Level road in Bassett at around 9:45 p.m. Thursday night.
When they arrived, James Roger Clark, 47, told police that his semi-automatic pistol accidentally fired and struck his wife, Tammy Leigh Clark, 46.
Police say the bullet struck her in both legs. She was first taken to the Memorial Hospital of Martinsville, and was later transferred to Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Her injuries are considered non-life threatening.
James Clark was charged with Reckless Handling of a Firearm and one felony county of Unlawfully Discharging a Firearm in an Occupied Dwelling. He has been released on an unsecured bond.
