Amherst, VA - A group of pet-owners came out in Amherst today to raise money for the American Cancer Society. It was part of the "Bark for Life" Fundraiser, put together by the Amherst Team United. Similar to a Relay for Life, people and their pets walked through Main Street in Amherst. There were also concessions, a silent auction, a sketch artist, and a blessing of the animals. Organizers say this is a perfect opportunity to raise funds for early detection, research, and a cure for cancer. "Each of us knows a friend or a family member who is touched by cancer and we want to show our compassion and support. And we also more than anything want to help donate towards the research," said Kathy Beck, Chair of Bark for Life. This was the second annual fundraiser and Team United says they plan to continue the event next year.
