Aunt Shelley by Shelley Basinger

Okay, so I obviously didn't save the surprise for the body of this blog. The title says it all.{} I'm going to be an aunt this summer, more specifically, sometime around July 10. Give or take a few days.

Bringing a new baby into the world is a true miracle, a very big deal.{} It's an even bigger deal for my family for a couple of reasons. One, this is the first grandchild for my parents.{} I'm pretty sure that when you asked my mom when she was little what she wanted to be when she grew up, the answer was "a grandmother." At least, that's how Jake and I feel sometimes. Thank goodness he has gotten me off the hook for a little while.

Two, while I know they can't wait to spoil this little guy rotten (yes, it's a boy), there's also an element of comedic payback for my parents.{} My brother was - to put it nicely - a little bit of a handful as a child.{} Oh yes, my parents have been waiting very patiently for years now. Make that about 31 years to be exact. {}Finally, my brother is going to see what it's like what it's like to raise a little boy. And I'm pretty sure they're secretly hoping this baby puts Jake through the ringer.

All jokes aside, my little nephew is going to have two amazing parents. Jake long ago outgrew his mischievous personality, letting the caring, patient person he has always been shine through. And I don't think he could have picked a better woman to marry. If Melissa watches loves and cares for this baby even half as much as she's loved and cared for my brother over the past couple of years, my nephew is in the best hands possible.

My nephew. I like the sound of that!
