Area Students Participate in Statewide Tornado Drill

Forest, VA - As we get closer to spring, Tuesday morning folks all across the state focused on getting ready for tornado season.

Students at Forest Elementary were part of Tuesday's statewide tornado drill. TV and radio stations across the state aired a test warning from the National Weather Service. When the test warning is heard, participants should move to a safe area, such as a basement, bathroom or closet on the lowest level of a building.

In a school, the students crouch down in the hallway.

"The purpose of our drills is to make sure that in the event of a emergency our students and staff are ready for any type of incident that could occur," said Forest ES Principal Lori Manley.

Over the last two years, 62 tornadoes have hit the Commonwealth, ten people were killed, more than 100 were injured.
