Appomattox Town Council to Vote on Cigarette Tax Ordinance
Appomattox, VA- Appomattox Town Council is set to vote on a controversial cigarette tax ordinance Monday night. The ordinance would require all stores to put a 27-cent tax on every pack of cigarettes.
Mayor Paul Harvey says there's no telling which way the vote will go.
The ordinance was originally heavily supported by council, until they received complaints from residents. Harvey says some business owners are worried customers will just buy their cigarettes outside town limits if the tax is passed.
