It's the surefire way to tell that summer in Appomattox is just around the corner.
Appomattox "Cheerz" is celebrating its 16th season of community fellowship in Abbitt Park. The food and fun is held on the third Friday of every month thru October, with live music acts being featured on the outdoor stage every month.
"Cheerz" is more than just a good time, as proceeds from the evening's admission, concessions, and raffles go to support a deserving non-profit group that is local to the Appomattox area. Appomattox County High School's French Club is raising money for a class trip to Paris, and teacher Lindsay Pulfer says that the funds raised at "Cheerz" will benefit the hard working students. Pulfer explains, "They've done several fundraisers, yard sales, selling various things.. So whatever we have been able to do, to make a little bit of money, we've done."
With a low admission cost, and kids under 12 entering for free, Appomattox "Cheerz" is a fun way for families, and the community to come together, and support one another. Sheila Palamar from the Appomattox Chamber of Commerce says the monthly event does more than just encourage a good time. Palamar explains "The Chamber of Commerce sponsors it, and we do fundraising, and it helps us do a lot of different things for the community."
Different non-profits groups, as well as a different live music act, will be featured every month. For a complete listing of acts and fundraising groups being sponsored, click HERE .
