Amherst Man Pleads Guilty to Robbery in Lynchburg

Lynchburg, VA - A robbery suspect who Lynchburg police say assisted in his own capture has pleaded guilty.

Derrick Beard, 34, pleaded guilty to three charges stemming from the armed robbery at the BP Gas Station on Old Forest Road back in January.

Detectives say he dropped his girlfriend's cell phone on the counter and left without it. Officials used it to track him down.

Beard will be sentenced next month.

He faces a maximum sentence of life plus four years.
