Amherst Co. Sheriff's Office Investigating Motorcycle, Dirt Bike, Dune Buggy Thefts
Amherst Co., VA - Several motorcycles and off-road vehicles have been stolen in Amherst County in the past couple months and the Sheriff's Office wants you to be careful.
The Sheriff's Office says since September 21, three motorcycles, two dirt bikes, an ATV, and a dune buggy have been taken.
ABC 13 covered the theft of a dune buggy like the one in the picture last week.
The thefts came from different parts of the county and Sheriff's Office doesn't believe they are related. They want to pass on these tips so you don't become the next victim, however.
Lock your ignition and take the key out.
Lock the forks or disk brakes with locks that have large, brightly colored tags.
Buy a disc lock alarm.
Lock motorcycles together when not in use, or if by yourself, lock it to a secure, stationary object.
Finally, get an audible alarm for your motorcycle.
If you have any information about any of these thefts, call or text Crime Stoppers. The phone number is 888-798-5900.
