Altavista/Dan River Hoops - ABC 13 Teams of the Week

Richmond - Today's high school Teams of the Week are basketball state champions from this past weekend.

The Altavista Colonels made it back-to-back state titles, taking down Radford 49-44 while the Dan River boys won state for the first time in school history, capping a perfect 25-and-0 season. The Wildcats routed Bruton in the 2A state title game 84-58.

Kenny Murphy, DAN RIVER HEAD COACH, said "I told the kids, well we lost the first quarter, we've got to come back and win the second one. But I was just surprised how we won that second quarter by as many points as we did. But we just continued to work hard, I mean we work hard on half-court defense with all five guys on the floor."

Mike Cartolaro, ALTAVISTA HEAD COACH, said "We wrote it up, you know, Richmond, Rebound and Ring, that's what we said. You know we've got to at least match 'em on the glass and make sure we don't have way too many turnovers against their pressure. That means that you don't have empty possessions."
