When the Lancers needed a crucial basket this season, Richerson was usually the one who delivered. In their state quarterfinal game against Christiansburg, he tied the game on a pair of free throws with 4.9 seconds to play. Although the Lancers ended up losing that game at the buzzer, it didn't diminish the impact Richerson had on the team.
The junior captain was named team MVP, 1st Team All Seminole District and 1st Team All Region. Richerson was Amherst's leading scorer averaging 17 points, 2.5 assists per game, 2.3 steals, and he shot 75.8% from the free throw line.
In addition to his achievements on the floor, Richerson has also been an honor Student in each year he's been in high school.
Lancers Coach Ed Carter says, "I knew as a Freshman A.J. as a skinny little kid wanted to be on the varsity and play against the best players and I knew we had someone special. We had a bunch of strong tough kids that year that kept beating on him every day and he just kept getting up and getting better
every day. Now we have the captain of a top 10 team in the state. Oh yes and he has one more year."
