Halifax Co., VA - The Halifax County man, accused of brutally beating to death an 84-year-old woman, made an appearance in court Monday.
James Terry was set to go through his preliminary hearing but it was postponed at the last minute. Prosecutors say they can't proceed until they get an autopsy report. They've been waiting on that report since April 15, the day after Charlotte Rice was killed in her North Main Street home in South Boston.
The only suspect in this case is the convicted sex offender, police say they caught running from the home.
The elderly woman's neighbors have identified Terry as the man they spotted leaving out her front door. Those same neighbors have reported they found the woman in a downstairs bedroom and it appeared she had been sexually assaulted.
We've learned, the results of a rape exam will be included in the autopsy report.
James Terry will be back in court for his preliminary hearing on July 25.
