Pamplin, VA - State police officials say the men who died in a single car accident that killed three people in Pamplin Saturday were all standing in the roadway when they got hit.
They say were in the middle of route 460 Business near the Prince Edward County line when a driver came through at a high rate of speed and hit and killed them. Police will not say why they were in the road.
Three memorials now line Pamplin Road where three men lost their lives Saturday night. The accident happened right in front of Delores Underwood's home.
"They got hit right here and then drug all the way to there," said Underwood, pointing to the scene of the accident.
She and her brother heard a 'bang' from their living room.
"He screamed, 'Come sis,' and I come running and out the door I went, there were cars and lights and I knew it was bad from the get go," she said.
As a former certified nursing assistant, she rushed out to assess the scene.
"There were people hollering 'save them!' There are people still arguing over you did this and you did that,"Underwood.
Underwood says she was told the men were arguing in the road.
"I don't know if they were trying to settle the argument or what, I don't know," she said.
But Underwood says she sees people walk up and down this road frequently. She can't understand why on that night it ended like this.
"I mean you can see a lot of things in your life, but when you see something like that, you won't forget it."
State police have not confirmed the men in the road were in a dispute. There's still no estimate as to how fast the driver was going. We do know she's a 20-year-old woman, and troopers do say charges against her are pending.
