Hurt, VA -- What started out as a family holiday tradition is now a piece of literature.
70-year-old Peggy Bennett of Hurt has been writing and thinking up stories since childhood. She wrote children's stories while working at a school and also for her church.
Each year, she went to the local publisher for her annual Christmas book to read to her grandchildren. When the publishers read her manuscript this time, they asked if it could be distributed to the public, which fulfilled a life-long dream for Bennett.
This first book is a collection of Christmas stories that have been in the works for close to 30 years, called Grandy's Christmas Stories.
"It was just amazing. I just wanted to cry because I just couldn't believe it had actually happened," Bennett said.
The book is available for purchase in Altavista at Pine Haven Press as well as Altavista Arts and Antiques.
