Concord, VA - It's not your typical donation at Concord's Gleaning for the World.
Instead of bottled water or canned goods, officials welcomed a truckload of sweet potatoes Tuesday: 48 thousand pounds of them.
Gleaning officials say the sweet potatoes will be used to help stock local food banks.
"They say a pound of potatoes is a meal. So you are looking at 48,000 meals that we are going to put into central Virginia. We've got a commitment to do a million pounds of food to the people of central Virginia a year and this is part of what we are doing," said Rev. Ron Davidson with Gleaning for the World
The donation was made possible through a partnership between Centra and the Society of Saint Andrews.
