2012 The Second Slowest Year for the Blue Ridge Parkway in 30 Years
Roanoke, Co - VA - Fewer people visited the Blue Ridge Parkway last year.
The number of visitors dropped one percent from 2011.
That's the second-lowest level in nearly three decades.
The one percent drop means there were about 177,000 fewer visitors.
According to the Parkway Superintendent, the 2012 decline may be due to Superstorm Sandy.
The storm blew through during October, which is normally the parkway's busiest month.
High gas prices may also be to blame.
